Feature of the Week: New Features!

This week we released a new version of BibSonomy which included a bunch of new features. We will present them in more detail in the next weeks but will use this weeks Feature of the Week to introduce the latest improvements:

  • Author search: you can now show publications which contain a certain author or editor.

  • New setting for the tag cloud: minimal frequency of a tag to appear.

  • The settings for the tag cloud are now persistent when you switch your browser or computer.

  • Several JavaScript improvements. In particular, when editing a publication all non-required fields (as regarded by BibTeX) are now hidden.

  • Simplified deletion of posts.

  • A bunch of new scrapers.

Could you please make the "hide non-required fields" feature optional in user settings? I add URLs and abstracts to my entries as often as possible and it's (mildly) irritating to have to toggle the option each time.

More generally, I'd like to see more options for sorting entries by year, author, etc. Otherwise, thanks for the great resource.

You are right - abstract and URL are essential fields which should always appear. We changed that now. Hence, it is probably not neccessary to implement that "hiding" as a user setting (when we see the need we will implement it, though).

Regarding sorting options: this is an issue which is not so easy to solve. Currently, we have an undocumented feature which removes from the list view all duplicate publication posts and sorts them by year and inside a year by author. It is implemented for the /publ-Layout (e.g., all publications of our group) and works on the posts shown on a page (i.e., although having 10 items to show, only 9 might be shown, because there is one duplicate).
For JabRef-based exports (i.e., those which start with "/layout/") you can get a similiar effect by adding the option "?duplicates=no" to the url. Sorting is then done by first authors surname.
We will see, how we can improve that in the future.
